During the CES 2020, the Taiwanese chip designer has announced the MediaTek Dimensity 800 7nm Octa-Core SoC with built-in 5G for mid-range devices, offering an octa-core CPU arrangement with four Cortex-A76 cores at 2Ghz and four lightweight Cortex-A55 cores at 2Ghz.
MediaTek isn’t the first tech company to announce the 5G chipsets designed for more affordable devices, Samsung and Qualcomm have both announced theirs.
The Dimensity 800 7nm processor is nothing like the flagship Dimensity 1000 processor. But happens to be the company’s latest SoC in the Dimensity series.
Photography and imaging also have some major changes with the MediaTek’s Dimensity 800 7nm processor, offering supports up to 64MP cameras sensors or large multi-camera options such as 32+16MP dual cameras.
It features AI-autofocus, auto exposure, auto white balance, noise reduction, high-dynamic-range (AI HDR) and dedicated facial detection hardware.
For the very first time, we will be seeing the world’s first multi-frame 4K video HDR capability (Video HDR). Which supports Full HD+ displays up to 90Hz refresh rate.
The company just says Dimensity 1000-class GPU, combined with MediaTek gaming technology – HyperEngine. Still arrives with the latest Arm graphics technology, a Mali-G77 GPU with four cores.
MediaTek’s Dimensity 800 7nm comes with MediaTek AI Processing Unit, APU 3.0 bringing a significant performance boost at 2.4TOPS, compared to 4.5 TOPS in Dimensity 1000, which is more than double the performance.
Concerning the support for 5G network, the MediaTek 800 7nm SoC supports 5G two carrier aggregation (2CC CA) for 30% wider high-speed layer coverage, more seamless 5G handover, and higher average performance.
The MediaTek 800 chipset also supports stand-alone and non-stand alone (SA/NSA) sub-6GHz networks, and includes multi-mode support for every cellular connectivity generation from 2G to 5G.
The CPU and GPU horsepower enables support for 90Hz refresh rates on FHD+ screens. Boasts of Helio M70 integrated 5G modem with sub-6Ghz support. The modem enables downlink speeds of 3.5Gbps and uplink speeds of 1.25Gbps.
Starting from the first half of 2020, MediaTek said that the Dimensity 800 powered devices will start hitting the market. Since the chipset is already shipping to OEMs.
